In 2025, I began I Want to Be a Tree, a Creative Scotland-funded project exploring bark, leaves and handmade paper. I collected materials around Juniper Green, the Water of Leith and the Pentland Hills, then processed them into pigment, pulp and paper.

The project developed through outdoor research, filming and drawing, alongside experiments in my garden studio. I became increasingly interested in bark as both a drawing material and a source for making paper.

This research led to a new strand of my practice using locally gathered bark and plant matter to create pigments, pulp and hand-formed paper surfaces. I continue to develop these processes through drawing, papermaking and sculptural work.
